    NJ Appraiser Licensing Tiers

New Jersey's four credential levels for real estate appraisers: Licensed Trainee, Licensed Residential, Certified Residential, and Certified General. Each tier has different education, experience, and property authorization requirements.

Licensed Trainee requires 75 hours of education and must work under supervision. Licensed Residential requires 150 hours plus 1,000 experience hours and can appraise non-complex 1-4 unit properties up to $1,000,000. Certified Residential requires 200 hours plus 1,500 hours plus an associate degree, and can appraise all 1-4 unit residential properties regardless of value or complexity. Certified General requires 300 hours plus 3,000 experience hours (1,500 non-residential) plus a bachelor's degree, and can appraise all property types. New Jersey follows the AQB minimum criteria but may impose additional state requirements.
