Supervisory Appraiser
A Certified Residential or Certified General appraiser who supervises a Licensed Trainee appraiser, providing mentorship, training, and oversight. The supervisor must have at least three years of experience and a clean disciplinary record.
In New Jersey, the supervisory appraiser is responsible for the quality and accuracy of all appraisals completed by their trainee. They must directly supervise a reasonable number of trainees (typically no more than three), review and co-sign every appraisal, and ensure the trainee gains experience across different property types and valuation methods. The supervisor-trainee relationship must be registered with the NJ Board. Finding a supervisory appraiser is often the most challenging step for new entrants to the profession.
